Simplifying Protocol Creation · Designing a more intuitive way for scientists to build and run liquid handling protocols with F.A.S.T.
Overview
We redesigned the Protocol Editor for F.A.S.T., a laboratory automation system that helps scientists automate liquid handling. The goal was to make building protocols feel more intuitive and familiar, while still accommodating the complexity of lab workflows.
We explored how manual sample transfers could be translated into a digital interface without losing the logic and flexibility scientists need. The result brings the entire protocol-building process into a single workspace, where users can define sample transfer tasks, set volumes and wells, and review the protocol before running it.
Once a protocol is running, the system gives clear progress and status information, while keeping controls like pause and abort within easy reach.
